Hilton Head Island, South Carolina: Five Great Experiences

Hilton Head Island is a small town with abundant wildlife, beaches, and mom-and-pop shops, making it the perfect place for solo travel or for friends and family to meet up and explore! This is my second time visiting the island, and I had more time to look around. Below are the five things I enjoyed trying this time at Hilton Head.

My Hotel Stay

My first time visiting Hilton Head, I stayed at the Beach House Resort, which was nice, clean and super family-friendly. I wanted to try something higher-scale this time, so I stayed at the Sonesta Hilton Head Resort. Both resorts have beach access, great swimming pools and great food. I enjoyed visiting the pool and the beach at different intervals throughout the day.

Where to eat in Hilton Head

  • Breakfast: A staple in Hilton Head is Skillets Cafe. I’ve gone there both times I visited Hilton Head because it’s so close to both resorts, but another great place is Sweet Al’s Café for a quick coffee and breakfast treat. Other popular establishments include Palmetto Bay Sunrise Café or Bad Biscuit.
  • Dinner: I’m not a big lunch person; I love breakfast food or a large dinner to get me through the day. During my trip, I tried various restaurants for dinner, but my favorite was Ela’s Blu Water Grille. I had the best Ahi Tuna Tartare, and then the Surf and Turf was OUT OF THIS WORLD! If you are looking for something more casual but still quaint, try Lulu’s Kitchen.
  • Dessert: I don’t have a sweet tooth, but I love Hilton Head’s Social Bakery. Let me tell you – the only thing you’ll be socializing is how many treats to get with the person standing next to you in line.  The lemon tart was excellent, and their coffee was great, too. If you like ice cream, there’s no better place than The Salty Dog Ice Cream Shop, a staple in the area for its classic desserts and unique flavors.

Bike to Your Next Adventure

Biking around Hilton Head Island is one of the best ways to explore its stunning landscapes and vibrant atmosphere. With over 60 miles of scenic, well-maintained bike paths, you can effortlessly navigate through lush forests, beautiful beaches, and picturesque marshes. This eco-friendly mode of transportation allows you to soak in the island’s natural beauty while accessing popular spots like Coligny Beach and Harbour Town at your own pace. Plus, biking offers a fun and active way to bond with family and friends, making it a perfect choice for a memorable day on the island.

Beaches, Baby!

Hilton Head Island boasts some of the best beaches along the East Coast, each offering its unique charm. Coligny Beach is a favorite for its vibrant atmosphere, amenities, and proximity to shops and dining, making it perfect for families. For a quieter experience, head to Singleton Beach, known for its expansive sands and serene environment. If you’re seeking natural beauty, Driessen Beach Park offers picnic areas and a beautiful view of the Atlantic, while Folly Field Beach provides a lovely mix of recreation and relaxation. No matter which beach you choose, you will surely enjoy the stunning coastal scenery and warm Southern hospitality.

Shop Around and Find Out!

For a unique shopping experience in Hilton Head, head to Coligny Plaza, where you’ll find a variety of boutiques, restaurants, and beach gear shops just steps from the ocean. The Shelter Cove Towne Centre offers waterfront shopping with a mix of local and national retailers and stunning sunset views. Don’t miss the local art galleries and artisan shops in the nearby Old Town area, where you can find one-of-a-kind souvenirs and crafts.

Close to a Bigger City

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is a 45-minute drive from Savannah, Georgia and is just far enough to feel like a different world–a small, quaint world. Visit the island for its charm, gorgeous beaches, and southern hospitality!

From sun-kissed beaches and picturesque bike trails to the rich tapestry of culture and delectable cuisine, Hilton Head Island offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Whether you’ve spent your days lounging by the ocean, exploring the lush landscapes, or indulging in the local seafood, each moment contributes to the island’s unique charm.

As you pack your bags and prepare to leave, take a moment to reflect on the memories you’ve created. Perhaps you’ll return to enjoy the island’s seasonal festivities or to experience the warmth of its community once again. Hilton Head isn’t just a destination; it’s a feeling that stays with you long after you’ve left its shores. So, carry the island’s spirit in your heart, and let it inspire your future adventures. Until next time, may the sun shine brightly on your journeys, and may you find new shores that capture your heart, like Hilton Head Island. Safe travels!
